Criticism hits North West’s Human Settlements Department for incomplete expensive housing projects in Taung Local Municipality.

In the spotlight is the North West Department, which is facing strong criticism over its stalled housing projects.

Urgent calls have emerged for the department to prioritise these projects, as some beneficiaries have sadly passed away before ever receiving their promised homes.

INCOMPLETE MULTIMILLION-DOLLAR HOUSING INITIATIVES IN NORTH WEST

The Department of Human Settlements in the North West finds itself under scrutiny due to the incomplete multimillion-dollar housing initiatives within the Taung Local Municipality according to OFM News.

Aaron Motswana, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Premier, Finance, Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements, and Traditional Affairs, voiced worries.

He highlighted halted housing projects—Majakgoro Project and Mokasa 2—for a frustrating nine years, lacking on-site advancement.

“The department postpones necessary tasks, neglecting unfinished houses. Assessments remain pending. Urgent priority is vital as beneficiaries have deceased.

In October 2014, the Department of Human Settlements contracted Synchrocom for R58.3 million to construct 431 homes in Majakgoro. The contract was ended due to poor performance, resulting in 233 finished and 198 unfinished RDP houses.”
