For the second time at least, someone has sneakily put President Jacob Zuma’s controversial home Nkandla up for sale on a free classifieds page, listing it as a “Luxury African Homestead”.
The ad on the site OLX listed the price at R260 million and described it as a “3.83ha luxury compound with world-class security & entertainment infrastructure for sale in the pristine & historical sprawling hills of Nkandla municipality ‘Enqabeni Enkulu KwaZulu’”.
In 2014 a user by the name of “the South African taxpayer” put Nkandla on sale on the site Gumtree for R246 million. Earlier this month, Zuma agreed to pay back some of the money owed on upgrades to the property in KwaZulu-Natal.
“Equipped with almost any amenity an international stately family would require, complete with security operational quarters, helipad & underground bunker with seamless “panic-mode” transit rail – this kingdom of exclusivity is a secure dream in the heartland of balmy Kwa-Zulu Natal,” the OLX ad went on.
The ad, posted by one Ntoeng Sekhoto, says to contact the presidency in Cape Town for more details.
Key features of the property included in the ad were a “Kraal/Livestock enclosure with culvert – 37.8m diameter”, “Small fowl enclosure (sic) – perfect for ducks, quails, hens”, “Tear-drop Pool for leisure & emergency use”, “Underground bunker with ample living quarters with autonomous water systems” and “Bullet proof windows”.
The ad has been removed since being covered by the media.
