Nehawu calls on Ramaphosa to sign controversial NHI Bill into law
Nehawu says any further delays from signing the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill into law would be a great travesty.
The National Education, Health, and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) has called on President Cyril Ramaphosa to sign the National Health Insurance (NHI) Bill into law.
The National Council of Provinces passed the controversial Bill in December 2023.
NEHAWU WANTS NHI BILL SIGNED INTO LAW
The union said President Cyril Ramaphosa has had ample time to consider the Bill before him and must now follow through with the mandate endorsed by the people of South Africa by signing the Bill into law.

“As Nehawu, we are highly concerned by this delay by the President, as the Bill has gone through extensive debate and scrutiny, including comprehensive public participation processes.
“Any further delays, therefore, would be an injustice to the millions of our people eagerly awaiting the introduction of NHI,” Nehawu said.
The union said the current term of the sixth administration will end soon, and any further delays in the signing of the Bill would be a great travesty.
