The motion of no confidence in Cape Town mayor, Patricia De Lille, has been withdrawn.
The scheduled motion was due to be brought by the Democratic Alliance (DA) Caucus during today’s council meeting.
The Caucus is set to meet on Thursday to discuss the request from the Federal Executive to retract the motion to allow the mayor to face a disciplinary process.
De Lille issued a statement on Twitter, saying the motions of no confidence (there has been more than one), “have been on the basis of untested allegations without evidence”.
She also expressed her desire to “remain positive and continue to put the people of Cape Town first”, ending the message on a philosophical note with the words “what must be, will be”.

The mayor has so far survived several attempts by the DA to see to it that she is removed as mayor of Cape Town, and to take away her membership with the party.
The terms of the deal that allowed for the motion to be removed today are not yet clear.
Councillor Marian Nieuwoudt reportedly says De Lille had been mired in controversy for the past year.
The wording of the motion set against De Lille stated: “The various allegations‚ independent investigations‚ prima facie findings‚ unanswered questions by herself and behaviour of the executive mayor has created distrust and a breakdown in confidence in her leadership.”
