Officials have advised residents to store water in advance and use it sparingly during the outage.

Governments Response to Water challenges

The infrastructure work forms part of broader government efforts to tackle water shortages. Delivering the first State of the Nation Address (SONA) of the seventh administration, President Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledged that many communities face persistent water supply issues due to aging infrastructure.

According to Ramaphosa, many people in cities, towns, and villages experience frequent water shortages due to failing infrastructure.

“We are therefore taking a series of decisive actions to resolve the water crisis, to enable our people to get water where they live, whether in townships or rural areas. We are investing heavily in expanding our water resources,” President Ramaphosa said.

Long-Term Service Improvements

Johannesburg Water has emphasised that commissioning the new infrastructure will lead to a more reliable water supply for residents.
