Mnet stated on DStv.com that there are no plans to cancel South Africa’s first isiXhosa telenovela Gqeberha: The Empire.

MNET: ‘PLANS ARE IN PROGRESS FOR NEXT SEASON’
Mnet added that Gqeberha: The Empire is scheduled to remain on-air for the foreseeable future and that plans are in progress for a second season.
“Mzansi Magic has just been made aware of the allegations of mistreatment of cast, we take such allegations seriously and we will be reaching out to the production house to verify the same. Gqeberha: The Empire has been welcomed by our audiences, as a great avenue to connect with beautiful region of the Eastern Cape and we are proud of what this project has achieved in this province.”
Their statement comes after Zimoja reported that the telenovela Gqeberha: The Empire, which is shot in the Eastern Cape may be coming to an end.
Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela also announced on Twitter on Wednesday, 19 July that the show has been cancelled and will not be renewed for another season.
