Minister of Electricity to receive donation of energy equipment

Minister of Electricity, Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, is set to receive the first donation of energy equipment from China.

In a significant stride towards bolstering South Africa’s energy resilience. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, the Minister in The Presidency responsible for Electricity, is poised to receive the inaugural consignment of energy equipment donated by the People’s Republic of China.

The energy equipment handover ceremony will take place on Thursday, 30 November 2023, in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

The generous contribution of energy equipment, including 450 gasoline generators, is part of the Technical Assistance Programme initiated during China’s Head of State Visit to South Africa in August 2023.

The timely arrival of the energy equipment marks a pivotal moment in addressing the nation’s energy challenges.

WHERE WILL THE ENERGY EQUIPMENT BE MOSTLY USED?

The generators, strategically destined for distribution across public service facilities nationwide, are poised to serve as vital backups.

“The generators will be used as backup to alleviate the impacts of load shedding in the delivery of services in clinics, schools and courts whilst government continues to implement the Energy Action Plan to ultimately end load shedding and create sustainable energy security,” said the Presidency.

Their deployment aims to mitigate the adverse effects of load shedding on essential services. Provided in clinics, schools, and courts.

Concurrently, the government is steadfast in its commitment to executing the Energy Action Plan. A comprehensive strategy aimed at eradicating load shedding and fostering enduring energy security.

DIPLOMATIC TIES BETWEEN SOUTH AFRICA AND CHINA

This collaboration underscores the strong diplomatic ties between South Africa and China. As both nations work collectively towards sustainable solutions for pressing energy issues.
