Yet another intriguing instalment of the Senzo Meyiwa trial got adjourned for tomorrow (Tuesday, 25 July), leaving many confused about witness Zandi Khumalo’s version of events.

ADVOCATE MSHOLOLO TAKES NO PRISONERS IN THE MEYIWA TRIAL

Advocate Zandile Shololo grilled Zandi on the witness stand during cross-examination at North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria, knit-picking every series of events leading to Meyiwa’s untimely demise at the Khumalo residence in Vosloorus in 2014.

However, Zandi appeared to be suffering from amnesia from time to time as she was able to remember some aspects of the fatal day while forgetting other, put to her by Advocate Mshololo.

Earlier Zandi was able to identify the accused who shot Meyiwa during the alleged home invas

WHAT ZANDI COULD REMEMBER:

Mshololo asked Zandi if she recalled the weapons that were wielded by the accused including their dress codes. But Zandi replied that one was carrying a firearm and another was wearing a hoodie which she could not describe the colour. She supported her response by saying that it was eight years ago and her focus then was to pay notice to the suspects’ faces not what they were wearing or carrying.

When asked about what Senzo was wearing, she replied that he was wearing blue denim jeans and a white shirt, while Longwe was wearing blue jeans and was not too sure about the others. Zandi also revealed that she assaulted one of the accused with a broomstick before running to the bathroom during the ‘fight’ over the gun, which was in the hands of the accused.

However, her version of events was not convincing enough to the court, even the presiding Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng alluded that there is no way anyone can wrestle an armed individual.

WILL THE WITNESS STATEMENT CARRY ANY WEIGHT TOMORROW?

Before concluding the proceedings of the day, advocate Mshololo read a Witness Statement which suggested a different tale of events, however, this was rubbished by Zandi who told Mshololo to call the witness to court and testify.

Cross-examinations on the matter are expected to continue tomorrow.
