While Mamelodi Sundowns have kept his signing a closely guarded secret, Stellenbosch FC announce that midfielder Junior Mendieta leaves the club and he is heading to Tshwane.

The Cape Winelands-based Stellenbosch headed to social media channels to announce that Mendieta has joined Sundowns.

Mendieta has been heavily linked with moves to the DStv Premiership giants such as Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United, but the league champions have lured him to Chloorkop.

STELLENBOSCH CONFIRMS MENDIETA’S EXIT TO SUNDOWNS

In a social media statement on Monday afternoon, Stellies confirmed that the Argentine playmaker has completed a permanent move to Sundowns.

The confirmation follows Mendieta’s farewell message to the club and Stellenbosch supporters last week.

“Júnior Mendieta has completed a permanent transfer to Mamelodi Sundowns,” said Stellenbosch.

“The club would like to thank him for his immense contributions over the last three seasons and wish him well in the next chapter of his career.”

MENDIETA EXPECTED TO MEET NEW SUNDOWNS TEAMMATES

As Sundowns announced that they were preparing to head to Rustenburg for their pre-season preparations, Mendieta is expected to be part of the camp.

The 29-year-old skillful midfielder, Mendieta arrived in Mzansi to ply his trade in the DStv Premiership at the start of the previous season and seriously impressed with his displays in the heart of the park.

“I am respectfully addressing you to thank you for the opportunity and the love that you have given me all these years,” he said on Twitter.

“I think I have done my job very well and I have always given my best and that leaves me at ease.

Taking a glance at his contribution, Mendieta played in 31 matches across all competitions for Stellies and netted an impressive 10 goals including nine assists.
