Matric results 2023: ANC elated as KZN overtakes Western Cape

The ANC in KZN says the matric class of 2023 in the province did exceptionally well by overtaking the DA-run Western Cape.

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal has hailed the matric class of 2023 for producing the highest number of distinctions in South Africa and, in the process, edging out the Western Cape under the Democratic Alliance.

KwaZulu-Natal was ranked second with a pass rate of 86.4% in public schools’ National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.

ANC KZN CELEBRATES OVERTAKING WESTERN CAPE

The party acknowledges the vast improvement from 83% in 2022 to a stellar 86.4% in 2023.

“We want to salute all learners whose performance has ensured that KZN takes the second position for the first time since we attained democracy 30 years ago.

“We are encouraged by the cooperation between unions and our education department,” the party said.

PARTY HAILS MEC AND TEACHERS FOR MATRIC CLASS OF 2023 SUCCESS

ANC KZN General Secretary also hailed the Education MEC in the province, Mbali Frazer, and educators at all levels for setting aside time – after school and even during weekends to teach our learners.

Four districts in KwaZulu-Natal were among ten of the best-performing in the country.

  • Umkhanyakude – 90.0% and is ranked 4th nationally
  • Ugu – 89.5% and is ranked sixth national
  • Ilembe – 88.6% is ranked eighth nationally,
  • Zululand – 87.2% is ranked tenth nationally.
