As thousands of Grade12 learners across the country prepare to begin their final school journey in less than a weeks time, the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University has provided tips on how to best prepare for the final matric exams.

While the ideal revision study time is three to six week before the start of matric exams and not a couple of days, there are still some things you can do to better prepare yourself throughout the exam period.

THE IDEAL STUDY SPOT FOR YOUR MATRIC EXAMS

Getting yourself to study takes personal restrain to stop yourself from doing other fun and less tedious things.

Here are some other tips to get you to study better.

  • You’ll need to find somewhere as quiet, organised and comfortable as possible.
  • Sit at an uncluttered table or desk
  • Don’t study in your pyjamas while lying on your bed – it’s too tempting to take a nap!
  • Avoid distractions by turning off the TV, radio and your phone
  • Ask your family members not to bother you while you are studying

PLANNING YOUR SESSIONS

In order to prepare yourself properly, it is ideal to plan your study sessions accordingly so that you get the most out of the time you have before your next exam.

Having a timetable out where you can easily see is a great start in order for you to study the correct subject on time.

  • Prioritise the subjects that you find the hardest or the ones with the most work.
  • Set goals that you work towards each day.
  • Keep sessions short but make them effective.
  • Make sure all your notes are up to date and that you have all your study material.
  • Study when you are most alert.
  • Schedule regular breaks during the day and try going for walks to get fresh air.
  • Put your plan somewhere that you and your family will see it.
