MARITZBURG CHAIRMAN SAID THE CLUB HAS TO RETRENCH
According to iDiski Times’ Robin-Duke Madlala, United Chairman Farook Kadodia confirmed that the club was retrenching staff members as they prepare for life in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
“The retrenchment was done purely because of the club playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the grant is not the same, the money is small,” Kaodia told iDiski Times.
“So we have to retrench everyone and re-employ in the event that we are running the business again.

The Team of Choice’s 15 years in the top flight football came to an end after they played to a draw with Cape Town Spurs in their final play-off match. They needed to win by a good score to retain their PSL status.
After the match, Maritzburg chairman posted a heartfelt message to the fans.
“To the members of the board, it was a moment of disappointment, as the inability to score even a single goal came at a significant financial cost of R50 million,” he said.
“To our city, over the course of two decades, we had strived to provide captivating entertainment that brought together diverse cultures with love and passion. Unfortunately, we fell short in delivering at the crucial moment.

“To the players, we felt betrayed by a few individuals whose questionable concessions of goals during the critical stages of our battle for survival proved detrimental. The absence of an attacking approach in search of a winning goal was overshadowed by unappealing defensive tactics,” said Kadodia.
