Mapaputsi’s impressive tombstone receives widespread approval
Did the tombstone of kwaito icon Mapaputsi reflect his bold and dramatic lifestyle? Many social media users seem to think it did.
Kwaito icon Mapaputsi, whose real name was Sandile Ngwenya, has been laid to rest after his sudden passing and the controversy that followed regarding his remains. Many feel his tombstone is a fitting tribute to the star he was.
Like many late South African celebrities, the hitmaker is buried at West Park’s Heroes Acre.
MAPAPUTSI LAID TO REST – SEE HIS TOMBSTONE
Over the weekend, Mapaputsi was laid to rest following allegations his body was being held ransom in an attempt to extort his family.
If that wasn’t dramatic enough, his “two wives” both attended his funerals.
In a scandalous showdown, both women – Nitty Nhlapo and Dieketseng Ayola Ngwenya – delivered tributes, introducing themselves as the “wife” of the star.
Later, pictures of Mapautsi’s tombstone also attracted attention due to its grand and over-the-top nature.
The large granite tombstone featured a picture of the star and text hailing him as a “kwaito legend” and an “extraordinary man who left a lasting legacy.”
Also engraved on it were the words by one of his partners, which read: “I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be your one and only wife.”
The tombstone also featured a QR Code, which visitors could scan to read a biography about the muso.
On social media, many claimed that the grave marker was “fit for a legend,” while others claimed it was as “dramatic” as his life.
Mapaputsi is buried next to stars like boxing legend Dingaan Thobela and other musos like Tokollo “Magesh” Tshabalala and Linda Mkhize, aka ProKid.
