In an ode to Mandela Day and it’s namesake, the late Nelson Mandela, President Cyril Ramaphosa has penned a letter and urging citizens to advocate for peace as the former statesman did.

UN RECOGNISES MANDELA DAY

In 2009 the United Nations declared Mandela’s birthday 18 July to being Nelson Mandela International Day.

“Striving for peace in the world, for an end to conflicts everywhere, and fir a true international fellowship of humankind are the ideals that Nelson Mandela stood for” the President says.

All across the country various, political parties, schools, private sector etc will be giving embarking on various charitable drives for at least 67minutes to commemorate the 67 years the former president spent fighting for human rights and the end to apartheid.

SA PROMOTES PEACE AROUND THE WORLD

Ramaphosa says the country has continued to build on the legacy of Mandela by brokering peace and end to conflicts in various nations across the world.

“The signing of the Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities Agreement between the government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front in Pretoria on the 2nd of November 2022, that South Africa played a role in brokering under the auspices of the African Union, continues to hold” says Ramaphosa.
