“This afternoon we got calls stating the lion/lioness was near the Glen shopping centre. We went out but could not find one. We urge the public if you see him or her or hear anything please do not approach him or her. Stay inside and phone our Duty Inspector on 083 604 1172,” the JSPCA instructed in the statement.
Although the Johannesburg SPCA admits this might be prank callers, they said they are not taking any chances as these kinds of situations were highly possible. In 2016, a lion named Columbus was spotted wandering the streets of Johannesburg after being released by a local film company that borrowed him from a nearby lion park, the New York Post reported.
