Limpopo traffic cop sentenced to three years in prison for corruption
Vincent Madiga, a 53-year-old Limpopo traffic officer, has received a three-year jail term for accepting bribes.
A 53-year-old Limpopo traffic cop, Vincent Madiga, has been sentenced to an effective three-year jail term for his involvement in corrupt activities.
The judgment was delivered this week at the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court, according to IOL News.

Madiga encountered legal problems in 2018 when authorities arrested him during a law enforcement operation. It emerged that he had accepted bribes, ranging from R200 to R1,500, from multiple people.
He was found guilty and convicted in August of this year. The origin of the case dates back to 2017 when numerous grievances arose regarding traffic officers soliciting and receiving unlawful payments from drivers.

PROJECT SIYABANGENA LAUNCHED
In reaction to these claims, the Serious Corruption Investigation team based in Polokwane launched an extensive investigation project named “Siyabangena.”
Lieutenant Colonel Matimba Maluleke, the provincial spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crimes, often referred to as the Hawks, clarified the operation.
On 31 January, 2018, a major operation was carried out in Mokopane, leading to the arrest of Madiga and his co-accused on corruption allegations.

Maluleke stated, “Madiga appeared in court multiple times and was released on bail until his conviction on August 8, 2023, for violating Sec 4(a) of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act 12 of 2004.”

He urgently requested a response regarding allegations that colored Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) traffic wardens were denied permanent appointments based on their race.
