Limpopo police officer arrested for six insurance-related murders totaling R10 million
A police officer, accused of arranging six murders to claim insurance payouts, was arrested in Limpopo while on duty.
Limpopo police have arrested one of their own officers on charges of murder and fraud linked to funeral, accidental, and life insurance policies.
According to South African Police Service (SAPS), the 43-year-old sergeant allegedly started her murder and fraudulent spree in 2019 and her arrest – while on on duty – was the culmination of investigations led by the respected Captain Keshi Mabunda.
Same MO in most insurance murders
“Her victims were known to her and were from destitute and disadvantaged background and some were disabled or mentally challenged.
“She would take out life policy and funeral covers on their behalf and she would be the beneficiary,” SAPS said in a statement.
The arrested sergeant is due to appear in the Polokwane District Court on six counts of murder and multiple counts of fraud on Friday, 11 October.
Stellar work by Captain Keshi Mabunda
This latest arrest marks another success for Mabunda in investigating insurance murders.
The captain’s name became well known when his work led to the imprisonment of infamous insurance murderer Rosemary Ndlovu.
Ndlovu was sentenced to six life sentences after she was convicted of the murders of her boyfriend and and five of her family members between 2012 and 2018, so that she could claim on life insurance policies.
