All five wanted jewellery store robbers who held up a shop at Savannah Mall in Polokwane, Limpopo last week have been arrested.

LIMPOPO TRACKING TEAM LOCATES ROBBERS IN KZN’S CAPITAL

Limpopo Provincial Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba confirmed that members of SAPS Limpopo Tracking Team, Limpopo Murder and Robbery, Pietermaritzburg Highway Patrol, Magma Investigations, and Security and Willie K9 Security arrested five suspects aged between 25 and 35 for a business robbery incident that occurred in a jewellery store in Polokwane, Savannah Mall, on Friday 12 May 2023 at around 09h00.

“The suspects held employees at gunpoint and robbed them of expensive jewellery.”

HOW THE JEWELLERY STORE WAS ROBBED BY THE SUSPECTS

It is reported that a 33-year-old female was on duty at a local jewellery store at Savannah Mall with her colleagues when a group of men armed with firearms entered the store and demanded money and gold.
It is further reported that the suspects proceeded to the display area and safely took out jewellery worth thousands of rand and put it into bags before fleeing in a grey Toyota Corolla sedan.

Following the incident, Ledwaba said the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe activated a team of investigators to trace and arrest the suspects.

“Members of Crime Intelligence provided information, which was accurately followed up to KwaZulu-Natal province in Hilton Pietermaritzburg Policing area. Suspects were located and arrested by the operationalized team in the evening of Friday, 19 May 2023,” he said.
During the arrest, Police recovered some of the stolen items and the getaway vehicle (the grey Toyota Corolla sedan).

The arrested jewellery store robbers will soon appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court.
