Latest update on SASSA Gold Cards for grant beneficiaries

Postbank has assured millions of social grant recipients that their SASSA Gold Cards will remain functional until they receive the newly introduced Postbank Black Card. This clarification follows widespread confusion over the Gold Card’s expiration date, initially set for 31 December this year.

The nationwide rollout of the Black Card has commenced in KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Northern Cape, and North West provinces. Despite this, Postbank emphasised that beneficiaries in areas not yet covered need not worry.

“Gold Card beneficiaries in areas where we have not started issuing Black Cards need not be concerned,” said Postbank spokesperson Bongani Diako.

“We will bring the Black Cards to where they live. Until then, their Gold Cards will remain valid for social grant payments throughout 2024.”

Misleading information about SASSA gold cards sparks concerns

In light of misleading advice circulating among beneficiaries, Postbank has urged them to ignore any claims suggesting the need to switch banks or payment methods.

“So, they must ignore any conflicting information, including any advice that they must change their payment method,” Diako reiterated.

Postbank has made it clear that no one, not even SASSA officials, has the authority to direct beneficiaries to use a different bank. Beneficiaries are encouraged to report any incidents of misleading attempts to the Postbank helpline at 0800 53 54 55.

Accessible payment channels

To ensure continued access to grants, beneficiaries can use their SASSA Gold Cards at major retail chains, including Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Spar, and Boxer, as well as any ATM nationwide. This convenience shows Postbank’s commitment to uninterrupted service during the transition to the Black Card.
