Julius Malema vows to double SASSA grants at EC manifesto
EFF leader Julius Malema encouraged people at the provincial manifesto launch to have more children, promising to double social grants.
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has encouraged people to make children promising to double social grants.
Malema said this during a provincial manifesto launch in East London, Eastern Cape on Human Rights Day.
JULIUS MALEMA VOWS TO DOUBLE SOCIAL GRANTS
Speaking at the launch, Malema said the EFF will double the child support grant from R510 to R1020.
“Don’t be lazy, please. Don’t be lazy, make children. When we leave here please get busy,” he said as the crowd cheered. I don’t care whether you’re poor or not, make children! We must multiply ourselves and leave a legacy through our children,” Malema said.
The Red Berets leader said people question him on why he encourages poor people to make children.
” I was born to a poor family, but being born to a poor family doesn’t mean you are going to die poor. You can change that family and make it a better family,” he added.

The EFF first launched its election manifesto at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on 10 February.
During the launch, Malema said his party would invest in the well-being of every individual, ensuring they could reach their full potential. The party plans to achieve this by increasing social grants.
- The older person’s social grant will increase from R2 090 to R4 180 monthly.
- The grant for war veterans will increase from R2 110 to R4 220 per month.
- The disability grant will increase from R2 090 to R4 180 per month, while the grant for care dependency will increase from R2 090 to R4 180 per month.
- The foster care grant will increase from R1 130 to R2 260 monthly, and the child support grant will increase from R510 to R1 020 per month.
CALL FOR GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE TO INCREASE
In 2023, Malema Malema also called for social grants to increase, citing the high cost of living in South Africa.
The flamboyant leader said the form of social assistance provided by the government since 1994 has not been impactful in reducing poverty because the current government is incapable of creating jobs and eliminating poverty.
“There is no child and no adult who can survive and thrive with R350 or R450 per month worse in a country with a rising cost of living. Not even the dogs of the presiding President survive on R450 per month,” he said.
