Julius Malema has stated his readiness to lead the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) for a third term.

The EFF will hold its National People’s Assembly in December where the party will elect new leadership and review some of its policies.

JULIUS MALEMA WANTS TO CONTINUE LEADING THE EFF

Following the 2019 elections, the EFF was the third biggest political party in the country, but support plummeted to just 9% in the 29 May polls. As a result, the party lost seats in Parliament and in some legislatures across the country.

Notably, since the party was launched 11 years ago, Julius Malema and Floyd Shivambu are the only two who have retained their positions. However, it is unclear whether the two will be elected to their current positions this time as the VBS saga has come back to haunt them.

In an interview with the SABC, Malema said he is absolutely available to lead the party for the third term. He also acknowledged that it is up to the delegates whether he comes back from the conference as leader or not.

Juju also took issue with those who always call him a dictator yet he always subjects himself to the democratic scrutiny of EFF structures.

“That democracy has worked as we will celebrate 11 years. What kept it alive is its democratic centralism and the ability to sustain the democratic practices in the organisation,” he said.

MBUYISENI NDLOZI VS MARSHALL DLAMINI

Earlier this month, former EFF student command president Mpho Morolane mobilised support for the party’s former spokesperson, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, to be elected secretary-general.

Morolane took to X, saying he must convene a meeting of all former EFFSC students, including the current one, to deliberate on the upcoming National People’s Assembly.

“I think I must convene a meeting of all former presidents of EFFSC, including the current one. We must have a view on the EFF national people assembly. I will persuade them, if they agree, that a character like Mbuyiseni must come as an SG,” he wrote.

During the interview with the SABC, Malema said he has not heard of the contestation between Ndlozi and Dlamini.

“I don’t see why Mbuyiseni and SG [Dlamini] would contest each other…Whether you have Mbuyiseni or Marshall you have your best. If there is going to be such a contestation it will be amongst the best of the best of the EFF, but I don’t see it happening,” Malema said.
