Johannesburg Water plans to implement 57-hour shutdown on 1 July

Johannesburg Water teams will conduct unplanned maintenance, which will result in a 57-hour outage. 

The maintenance will start at 8:00 on Monday, 1 July until 17:00 on Wednesday, 3 July.

JOHANNESBURG WATER TO CONDUCT UNPLANNED MAINTENANCE

Johannesburg Water said its teams will be repairing a burst 375mm main pipe to improve service delivery and the continuity of water supply. 

There will be no water during the maintenance, and there is no finite decision yet on alternative supply. 

All the streets in the following suburbs will be affected:

• Bramley North
• Alexandra
• Wynberg

TWO-DAY EMERGENCY MAINTENANCE ONGOING

At the weekend Johannesburg Water also announced that its teams will conduct unplanned maintenance from 4:00 on 26 June until 17:00 on 28 June.

All the streets in the following suburbs are affected:

• Atholl
• Atholl Gardens 
• Benmore
• Hyde Park
• Hurlingham
• Illovo
• Inanda
• Morningside
• New Brighton
• Parkmore
• Sandhurst
• Sandton
• Sandown
• Strathavon
• Simbo
• Willowild

UPDATE ON RAND WATER MAINTENANCE

Meanwhile, the Rand Water maintenance at the Zwartkopjes Pump Station has been completed, however, pumping was affected by power failure.

On Wednesday night, Johannesburg Water said some systems supplied by Zwartkopjes were steadily recovering, however, the following systems were still struggling:

Crown Gardens Reservoir and Tower – Johannesburg Water said the system remains critically low, while the tower is empty. The reservoir outlet remained closed on Wednesday night to build capacity.

“Residents are experiencing no water supply, however, alternative water supply has been arranged,” the utility said.

Eagle Nest Reservoir was also critically low. The entity said poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone.

Aeroton Reservoir and Tower was also critically low and on bypass. Johannesburg Water said poor pressure to no water is expected in the supply zone. Additionally, alternative supply will be provided to the affected areas.

Eikenhof Pump Station – As of Wednesday night, the station was pumping at 67% and most Johannesburg Water systems supplied by Eikenhof were critically low or empty.

Soweto systems – Overall, Soweto systems were also low but supplying normally. However, Doornkop West and Protea Glen reservoirs were strained and poor pressure to no water is expected.
