Uganda Airlines increases seats on Johannesburg route

There will be more than double the amount of seats on Uganda Airlines’ Entebbe to Johannesburg route, after the airline announced the addition of an A320-200 aircraft to be used along the route.

This will effectively boost available seats from 78 on the CRJ900 to 160 seats on the Airbus. 

As reported by Travel News, the A320-200 aircraft, which is wet-leased from South African ACMI specialist Global Airways, will be used to operate four out of the seven weekly flights on the Johannesburg route. The remaining three weekly flights will continue to be serviced by the CRJ900. 

Uganda Airlines Country Manager for South Africa, Monica Rubombora, said that the addition of the new aircrraft to its fleet is part of their strategy to allow the airline to better serve its passengers on key routes.

“This aircraft will enable us to meet the growing demand while continuing to deliver the high standards of service that our customers have come to expect from Uganda Airlines.” Rubombora said as per Travel News.

Rubombora added that demand on the Johannesburg route had grown since operations began in May 2021 and that it had introduced certain pressures into Uganda Airlines’ operations.

The A320-200 will also be deployed on scheduled flights to Nairobi, Lagos, and Kinshasa routes, which have all experienced significant growth recently.

Flight schedule

Flights will go out daily, according to the following schedule:

Entebbe to Johannesburg

• Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays: Flights will depart Entebbe at 08:30 and arriving in JHB at 11:45.
• Tuesdays and Thursdays: Flights will depart Entebbe at 16:25 and will arrive in JHB at 19:40.
• Sundays: Flights will leave Entebbe at 19:30 and arrive in JHB at 22:45.

Johannesburg to Entebbe

• Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays: Flights will depart JHB at 12:50 and arriving in Entebbe at 18:05.
• Tuesdays and Thursdays: Flights will depart JHB at 20:40 and will arrive in Entebbe at 01:55+1.
• Sundays: Flights will leave JHB at 23:45 and arrive in Entebbe at 05:00+1.
