A total of 77 people were injured after two buses collided on Kingsway Road near the entrance to the University of Johannesburg on Tuesday morning.

BREAKING NEWS- A TOTAL OF 77 PEOPLE WERE INJURED IN A MULTI BUS ACCIDENT

According to Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, the accident happened at around 08:00 on Tuesday morning.

“On arrival on the scene, two buses were found to have collided. One was found to have overturned and lay on its side, occupying the width of the roadway.”

ONE BUS WAS OVERTURNED WHILE THE OTHER HAD COLLIDED WITH A CONCRETE STRUCTURE

He said the second bus had collided with a concrete structure.

“Several patients were found to have sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

“Incident commanders established an on-scene triage area and additional resources were dispatched by the Emer-G-Med Emergency Operations Centre.” – Kyle van Reenen

SEVERAL PEOPLE WERE EXTRICATED USING JAWS OF LIFE

Van Reenen said with the assistance of the Johannesburg Fire Department; several patients were extricated using specialized hydraulic equipment, including the Jaws-of-life.

“On the scene, paramedics worked fervently to stabilize the injured before they were transported by ambulances to nearby hospitals for further medical care.”

He furthermore added that there were no fatalities reported.

MOTORISTS ARE ADVISED TO AVOID THE AREA

The exact details surrounding this incident are unknown but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area as emergency services are still busy on the scene.
