Cape Town motorists face having their vehicles impounded after the traffic by-law of 2021 came into effect in July 2023
Among the offences in the Traffic by-law of 2021 that could see motorists having their vehicles impounded includes driving with missing number plates, unroadworthy vehicles, and unlicensed vehicles, according to SABC News.

Mayoral committee member for safety and security, Alderman JP Smith, commenting on the amended Traffic By-Law of 2021 said: “Failing to stop when ordered to do so, reckless and negligent driving or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) means you not only get arrested but your vehicle gets impounded until your court proceedings are complete- then only can you pay your impoundment fees and retrieve your vehicle.”
