Forget the painful queues this weekend, here’s how you can register to vote online for the 2024 elections.
If you’re able to, you should register to vote online ahead of this weekend’s 2024 national voter registration drive. That’s correct, save your weekend but still uphold your democratic right to vote by simply clicking HERE.

To register to vote online, all you need to do is follow the prompts. The Electoral Commissions website also allows you to check and update your registration address, which is critical to be able to vote fairly in the 2024 elections at your nearest voting station.

REGISTER TO VOTE ONLINE
You must register to vote online at the LINK by inputting your ID number, email address and username. If you have not yet registered, first create a profile on the website.
- South Africans aged 16 or older can register.
- You must by 18 years or older to vote.
- To register to vote you need a South African identity document (green ID booklet, ID smartcard or a valid temporary ID certificate.
- To register you must also provide an address or description of where you live so that the IEC can place you in the correct ward and voting district.
- The Electoral Commission of South Africa says NO proof of address is needed.

If you’re one of the tens of millions of South Africans without access to the internet, you must still register to vote at the voting station for your voting district this weekend, 18-19 November 2023 between 08h00 and 17h00 each day.
FREE AND FAIR ELECTIONS IN 2024
The Electoral Commission of South Africa is entrusted with delivering free and fair national elections in 2024. The actual dates for South Africa’s 2024 national and provincial elections have not be confirmed as yet. However, they must take place between May and August 2024. Exact dates will be announced by the President early in the new year.

The Electoral Commission of South Africa says it will be ready for this weekend’s voters with 22 300 stations setup countrywide for registrations. VISIT AN IEC OFFICE
If you decide not to register to vote online, or over this weekend’s registration drive, you can still visit a local Electoral Commission office on weekdays during office hours. Click HERE to find a local office nearest you.

If you are a South African citizen but don’t have a valid ID document, the Electoral Commission will not allow you to register. For this, you must apply for one at the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) as soon as possible. DHA offices will be open this weekend to coincide with the voter registration.
