The Department of Home Affairs initiative to employ 10,000 young graduates has resulted in nearly 3,700 jobs for unemployed youths since August 2022, with over 260 individuals finding better opportunities elsewhere.
HOME AFFAIRS GRADUATE HIRING INITIATIVE SHOWS PROGRESS
Minister of Home Affairs Aaron Motsoaledi confirmed that the graduate job initiative has been showing good results.
Nearly 3,700 jobs for unemployed youths since August 2022, with over 260 individuals finding better opportunities elsewhere.
According to MyBroadband, Motsoaledi revealed that the department digitalised over 31.5 million images by February 29, 2024, as revealed in response to questions from Democratic Alliance MP Adrian Roos.
“The advert for the first 1st 2,000 cohort of unemployed graduates was published in the 2022/23 financial year, leading to the initial employment of 1,405 graduates,” said Motsoaledi.
According to the Department of Home Affairs it was their goal for their job advert to reach as many unemployed graduates.
The departments records state about 260 of those graduates were successful in their job interviews and worked for the Home Affairs have already left for better opportunities.
DEPARTMENT OF HOME AFFAIRS DIGITALISING PROCESS
The Department of Home Affairs digitalising process initiative aims to hire young graduates to digitise over 350 million civic paper records, including birth, marriage, death, and amendment certificates, with the majority located in Gauteng, the North West, and the Western Cape.
According to BusinessTech, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced during the State of the Nation Address in February 2022 that the department of Home Affairs will recruit 10 000 unemployed graduates for the digitisation of its civic paper records, enhancing their skills and contributing to the modernisation of citizens services” through the Presidential Employment Stimulus, PES.
Motsoaledi stated that candidates who are applying candidates should be qualified in Information Technology, document, information and records management, obtained from Institutions of Higher Learning.
