Gauteng dominates the list of top ten hijacking hotspots with six police stations as per the crime statistics for the first quarter in the 2023/24 financial year.
Police Minister Bheki Cele presented the crime statistics for April – June 2023 on Friday, 12 August in Pretoria.

HIJACKING HOTSPOTS IN GAUTENG
Olievenhoutbosch in Tshwane recorded the second most hijacking cases (nationally) sitting at 90, an increase of 33 cases compared to the same period in 2022. It is the leading hijacking hotspot in Gauteng followed by Protea in Johannesburg which also recorded an increase of 30 cases compared to the same period the previous year.

Nationally, 6.4% decrease in carjacking cases was recorded. A total of 5 488 carjacking incidents were recorded this year compared to 5 866 recorded in the same period in 2022.
