Here are the Cape Town road closures for the SONA on Thursday
To prepare for Thursday’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), Cape Town has disclosed road closures for traffic management.
In anticipation of the upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) scheduled for Thursday, 8 February, the city has announced a series of road closures to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and enhance security measures.
The public is advised to take note of these closures, some of which will remain in effect until 15 February.
The Central Business District will witness temporary road closures aimed at facilitating traffic management during the significant event to be held at City Hall.

The City urges residents and commuters to plan routes accordingly and be mindful of potential disruptions to the normal flow of traffic in and around the city bowl.
ROADS CLOSURES IN CAPE TOWN FOR THE SONA
For the SONA rehearsal scheduled from 5 to 7 February 2024, certain streets will experience closures from 6:00 to 23:59.
These include:
- Darling Street between Buitenkant and Lower Plein Street
- Parade Street between Darling and Caledon Street
- The closing parade on Corporation Street from Longmarket to Castle Street
- Castle Street from Corporation to Buitenkant Street

On the day of the SONA, 8 February, additional closures will be in place from 6:00 to 23:59.
Affected roads include:
- Darling Street from Lower Plein Street to Corporation Street
- Hanover Street from Darling Street to Tenant Street
- Longmarket Street between Plein and Corporation Street
- Corporation Street between Longmarket and Caledon Street
- Longmarket Street between Plein to Buitenkant Street
- Parade Street from Albertus Street to Darling Street

CITY URGES ROAD USERS TO PLAN ALTERNATIVE ROUTES
The City encourages road users to strongly familiarise themselves with the announced closures, plan alternative routes, and allow for additional travel time to avoid any inconvenience.
