Police in South Africa have shot and killed two men in KwaZulu-Natal in a ‘blaze of bullets’ who were allegedly responsible for the murder of two security guards in a stationary vehicle in Soweto two weeks ago.

This was confirmed by South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Vishnu Naidoo in a statement on Tuesday.

Chilling dash-cam footage circulated on social media of two private security officers being shot and killed while they sat in the back seat of a patrol vehicle, in the township on 10 October.

The two suspects then proceeded to disarm the two officers. The suspects’ faces and distinctive tattoos were clearly visible in the video (see picture below)… as they seemed oblivious to the dashboard camera filming them.

The horrifying incident was captured on dash-cam video and went viral, sparking widespread condemnation by various sectors of society.

24/7 Security Services boss Geoff Schapiro told TimesLIVES that his guards had been killed by “heartless criminals with no regard for human life”.

Since the killings, Crime Intelligence and Gauteng Organised Crime Unit have worked tirelessly over the past two weeks to track down the culprits.

“Members from the Gauteng Organised Crime Unit, acting on intelligence and supported by various other police units, were led to a shack in the Clermont area, west of Durban,” Naidoo said.

When the police officers on Monday attempted to arrest the two, identified as Lindokuhle Cebekhulu (24) and Mbuyiselo Mthonti (26), Naidoo said they resisted, which resulted in both suspects being shot dead.

“There are no reports of any police officers being injured at this stage,” said Naidoo.
