GQ Men’s Magazine has posted a video apologising to the world for the “unforgivable actions of the man who has assumed power here”, while South African President Jacob Zuma’s ex-wife Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma has slammed the United States for taking slaves from Africa, yet banning “refugees from some of our countries”.
In the seven-minute presentation of The Resistance, GQ political host Keith Olbermann outlines the reasons why he believes American President Donald Trump was wrong to suspend all US refugee programmes and ban immigration from seven Muslim-majority countries (pointing out, for instance, that the number of Americans killed by terrorism on American soil by people from those countries from 1975 to 2016 was… none, while countries in the Middle East against which Trump did not act include the home nations of the 911 hijackers). Watch below.
Three of the countries included in Trump’s ban are African Union (AU) members Libya, Somalia and Sudan.
South African outgoing AU chief Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma (whose next job could be that of her ex-husband… President of SA) slammed the US during a meeting in Ethiopia of the 53 AU member states, saying: “The very country to which many of our people were taken as slaves during the transatlantic slave trade has now decided to ban refugees from some of our countries.”
She said the ban presents “one of the greatest challenges” for Africa and marks the start of “very turbulent times”.
United Nations (UN) chief Antonio Guterres also said during the summit in Addis Ababa: “African nations are among the world’s largest and most generous hosts of refugees.
“African borders remain open for those in need of protection when so many borders are being closed, even in the most developed countries in the world.”
Not everybody thinks Trump’s decision is wrong. In a video by former US Marine filmmaker and NGO founder Victor Marx, who has a home in Iraq and works with refugees, he reminds viewers that the ban is temporary and explains why in his opinion it’s necessary to slow down the flow. Watch below.
Not all former marines agree. SAPeople follower Allen JB says “I spent 20 wonderful years with the US Coast Guard. Then, it was part if the Department of Transportation. These days it is part of DHS (Dept of Homeland Security). I am so sad… so angry. I hope the good people of DHS are ashamed they have to carry out these indecent functions. Fascism in the name of public safety is still fascism.”
