WILDERNESS, SOUTH AFRICA – The suspects who attacked a couple from Germany, who were on holiday in Wilderness, have reportedly been apprehended.
Robert van Helsdingen, NSRI Wilderness station commander, said the couple from Heidelberg were robbed and assaulted on Sunday evening, and that it is believed the suspects have been apprehended.
The 54-year-old German man suffered multiple injuries, and was treated on the scene by paramedics. He was transported to hospital and is in a serious but stable condition.
“His wife was assisted by NSRI and the police, and she was not injured,” said van Helsdingen.
“It appears that they attended a wedding in Hermanus and drove up the coast on a holiday, arriving in Wilderness on Sunday, when they were robbed of valuables and assaulted.”
Police are investigating and are believed to have recovered stolen items.
Germany recently overtook the UK as the country which sends the most overseas tourists to South Africa.
