Gautrain services are resuming after interruption
Gautrain services resumed after morning suspension due to power failure, causing delays in travel between stations.
Gautrain services have swiftly resumed following a brief suspension earlier on Monday morning, which disrupted travel between the Midrand, Centurion, and Hatfield stations.
The halt was attributed to a significant power failure, causing substantial delays during the morning commute.
“We have successfully restored power, and the train service is now back on track, operating as per the schedule. We deeply regret the inconvenience faced by our passengers traveling to and from these stations this morning,” assured Gautrain.
GAUTRAIN SUSPENDS SERVICES DUE TO POWER FAILURES AND DELAYS
Gautrain cited power failures as the primary cause for the extensive delays encountered earlier in the day, prompting the decision to temporarily suspend services.
Meanwhile, the City of Johannesburg announced a six percent increase in Gautrain fares, set to take effect from the beginning of June.
Despite the increase, discounts on weekly and monthly passes will still be available to passengers. The fare adjustment extends to airport services and parking fees, although bus fares remain unaffected.
FARE ADJUSTMENTS
Passengers can anticipate slight adjustments in Gautrain fares, with the journey from Hatfield to Rhodesfield now priced at R49, up from R43, and from Sandton to Pretoria at R43, up from R41.
Moreover, special weekend shuttle buses connecting Sandton Station and Montecasino will operate from 8:15 to 19:30, departing every 45 minutes from both ends at a cost of R20 per trip, with tickets available exclusively at Sandton Station and Montecasino.
The fare revisions, disclosed on Gautrain’s website on 14 May, offer monthly ticket holders a 20 percent discount and weekly ticket holders a 10 percent discount, translating to a revised monthly fare of R716 for the Hatfield to Pretoria route, previously priced at R674.
Parking fees are also subject to an increase, starting from R12 for an hour and escalating to R85 for 24 hours. Despite these adjustments, all Gautrain schedules will remain unaffected, with certain train sets now expanded to eight cars to accommodate passenger demand.
