GAUTENG HEALTHCARE INITIATIVE
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, provincial health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, and the Gauteng Emergency Services (EMS) have initiated a program to support the healthcare sector by providing employment contracts to 1,120 interns.
The handover ceremony was held at the Change Bible Church in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni.
According to IOL, the 12-month Green Angels Emergency Care Internship Programme aims to equip interns with essential training and valuable experience, making them employable and market-ready in the field of emergency care.
Through the Nasi Ispani initiative aimed at addressing poverty, crime, and lawlessness, participants in the programme will receive a monthly stipend of R5,000.
Lesufi addressed the interns urging them to take good care of the province’s health sector.
The premier cautioned the interns not to fall on the narrative that they were employed because they belonged to a certain party.
EFF CRITICISES NASI ISPANI PROGRAM AS NEPOTISTIC JOB OPPORTUNITIES
The Gauteng Provincial Government filled about 8000 funded vacancies through the “Nasi Ispani” programme that exists across various provincial departments.
According to IOL, on Youth Day Lesufi announced the start of the application process for the previously declared thousands of vacancies across the Gauteng Provincial Government departments.
According to the EFF, this staffing process is important for the capacity of departments so they can effectively execute their mandate.
IOL reported that EFF’s provincial chairperson, CMSR Nkululeko Dunga, stated that the party had advocated for this action for quite some time, noting the longstanding existence and accumulation of these vacancies over the years.
Dunga added that as the 2024 general elections drew nearer, the ANC could not conceal its desperation.
The Gauteng Provincial Government spokesperson, Vuyo Mhaga mentioned that during Lesufi’s State of the Province Address (SOPA), he pledged to provide 152,000 jobs.
