While motorists attempted to manoeuvre out of the traffic caused by a cash-in-transit heist on the N4, another armoured truck was hit approximately an hour later.

“Another happening now – Please be advised there has been a second cash-in-transit heist and armoured vehicle bombing on the N4 and R80 in the Rosslyn area. Emer-G-Med paramedics have not responded to this scene however emergency service agencies are currently in attendance,” the private ambulance service alerted about the incident.

To confirm the latest incident, social activist Yusuf Abramjee tweeted the image of a completely wrecked G4S vehicle in the middle of the road.

GLOOMY DETAILS SURROUNDING THE INCIDENT

Details surrounding the injuries of guards or bypassers and the amount stolen have been sketchy at this stage.

ARMOURED VEHICLE AND GUARDS HIT EARLIER

However, at the earlier incident on the N4 national highway in the vicinity of Watermeyer and Russouw Streets, it was reported that the suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of money in an unknown direction.

It is further reported that two guards were injured when Emer-G-Med paramedics responded to the scene to find the carcass of the armoured vehicle occupying the width of the roadway.

“Two security officers sustained moderate injuries and were treated and stabilized on scene before being taken to a nearby hospital for further care. Traffic in the area was severely affected as the roadway was closed to allow emergency services to clear the scene.

The South African Police Services were in attendance and will be conducting the necessary investigation accordingly,” the private ambulance service explained.
