‘Funding Afriforum’: Did Julius Malema and the EFF pay R300 000?
Did Julius Malema and the EFF make yet another generous donation of over R300 000 to lobby group Afriforum?
A screenshot of proof of payment of R300 000 allegedly made by Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and its leader Julius Malema to lobby group Afriforum has been circulating on social media. How true is this?
The screenshot is in relation to the red berets losing their application for leave to appeal an interdict which AfriForum acquired in 2017 on illegal occupation of private property where the court ordered them to pay the costs.
DID MALEMA AND THE EFF PAY AFRIFORUM R300 000?
Afriforum leader Kalllie Kriel took to X (previously known as Twitter) to share that the EFF and Malema have paid two cost orders granted against them.
A number of people who commented on the post pointed out some errors in the proof of payment, however, Kriel insisted that Malema and the EFF did make the payment. He further shared a screenshot of the funds reflecting in AfriForum’s bank account.
BACKGROUND: HERE’S HOW WE GOT HERE
In January 2023, Malema and the EFF applied for leave to appeal in this case with the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria and the application was dismissed.
They then took the matter to the Constitutional Court and their application was dismissed in March 2023. Malema and his party then approached the Supreme Court of Appeal.

AfriForum said this is the fifth loss for Malema and the EFF in this same matter.
First the interdict was granted by default because Malema’s attorneys did not show up at court in 2017. Second Malema’s rescission application was dismissed with costs.
Third Judge Mabusa of the High Court dismissed Malema’s application for leave to appeal.
Fourth the Constitutional Court dismissed his application for direct access and appeal and the Supreme Court of Appeal likewise dismissed the appeal because there are no prospects of success. It is now established law that incitement to trespass and invade land is a serious crime.
