The next full moon for South Africans to look forward to is happening on Monday, November 27. But did you know that the next moon after this happens in December, and it will be the last of its kind for the year – and the last lunar event until January comes along?

December’s moon is called the Springbok moon, according to the Centre for Astronomical Research.
Here’s everything you should know about the names given to December’s lunar event this year, and why it is called that.
SPRINGBOK FULL MOON FOR DECEMBER
According to the Centre for Astronomical Research, the full moon event for December is called the SPRINGBOK moon.

Each month (usually, moon) of the year is given a different name. Every name is chosen from something special out of South Africa’s multicultural heritage – including the moon named for December.
The December lunar event is happening on the 28th of the month: set a reminder so that you can know when to look up at the sky.
NEXT FULL MOON FOR 2024
The December lunar event is the last one for 2023, so you don’t want to miss it if you love the stars and planets!
According to Time and Date, the next scheduled moon will happen on 6 January, 2024.
If you miss the moon in December, you’ll have to wait a few more days to see it at its brightest.
