On Thursday, 15 June, the Overberg District Municipality in the Western Cape advised motorists that the Franschhoek Pass (R45) was shut due to rockfalls.

MOTORISTS URGED TO EXERCISE CAUTION AS ROCKFALLS PROMPT CLOSURE OF FRANSCHHOEK PASS
The Franschhoek Pass and the R321 have been affected by rockfalls. Traffic cops from the provincial government, Stellenbosch Municipality and Theewaterskloof Municipality have blocked the road and diverted traffic to alternative routes until the area is safe.

SEVERE WEATHER
The Western Cape has faced heavy rain over the past couple of days due to a series of passing cold fronts. An Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive rainfall was issued for Cape Town and the Cape Winelands. It is valid until midnight.
The City of Cape Town continues to report flood-hit areas, and at least three rivers burst their banks on Thursday.
