
Four Durban beaches closed in the lead-up to the Easter weekend
Just before the bustling Easter weekend, four of Durban’s beaches have been temporarily closed for swimming. Here’s what you need to know…

eThekwini Municipality updates status on beaches and pools
With the Easter weekend drawing near, eThekwini Municipality has shared the latest updates on which Durban beaches and public pools are open and safe for swimming.
According to the municipality, as of 1 April, there are currently four beaches closed for swimming due to poor water quality, and 19 that are open and regarded as safe for swimming.
These five closed Durban beaches are:
- Laguna Beach,
- Winkelspruit
- Reunion, and
- Battery Beach.
“This status of beaches and pools will be updated as and when their status changes. You can still enjoy other recreational activities at closed beaches. You just can’t swim.” the municipality said.
Open beaches in Durban this April
The following 18 beaches in Durban are currently open for swimming between the hours of 06:00 and 18:30:

Open public swimming pools
In addition to the open beach updates, eThekwini Municipality also updated their open pool status, revealing that there are now 40 swimming pools across Durban open to the public. These are:

Swimming pools are open from 6:00 to 18:00, Monday to Saturday, then from 9:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays.
