Flooding: Eastern Cape and KZN on alert
Heavy rains are posing threats of flooding for both the Amathole District Municipality communities in the Eastern Cape and Durban motorists.
Communities in the Amathole District Municipality (ADM) in the Eastern Cape and motorists in Durban are facing possible flooding conditions due to heavy rains.
The rainy weather has resulted in severe damage to homes and the flooding of roads and bridges across the region.

CRITICAL WARNING OF FLOODING TO RESIDENTS DURING THE HEAVY RAINS
The ADM has issued a crucial warning to local residents. Urging them to stay vigilant and avoid attempting to cross overflowing bridges, roads, and rivers. The municipality’s disaster teams are actively assessing the extent of the damage in collaboration with local councillors.

“Affected communities have been encouraged to report damages to their ward councillors. To expedite the ADM’s disaster response efforts,” according to Nonceba Madikizela-Vuso, the municipal spokesperson.

In Durban, the eThekwini Municipality has also raised concerns, calling on motorists to exercise caution during heavy rainfall. Many roads in the area have been adversely affected, leading to road closures.
ROADS CLOSED IN DURBAN
Some of the affected routes in eThekwini include Curnick Ndlovu Highway N2 bridge, N2 North bound in Umlazi, R102, Glen Anil, M4 southern freeway, and many others.

As the South African Weather Services predicts showers and thundershowers in the eastern parts of the country on 16-17 October 2023. Also widespread rains over the eastern parts.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant. They also urged to take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during these challenging weather conditions.
Drivers are urged to not take unnecessary trips, in these weather conditions.
