The 2023 Hollywoodbets Durban July is set to be the most anticipated sporting and fashion event of the year. The annual iconic sporting and social event will feature six trailblazing fashion designers selected to be part of the Invited Designer Showcase presented by the Durban Fashion Fair.
THE DESIGNERS
About 50 000 people are expected to make their way to the Greyville Racecourse in Berea, Durban on Saturday, July 1, to experience the Africa’s most remarkable prestigious event.
This years’ Durban July promises to have all the glitz and glamour sorely missed in the past few years. The theme for this year is “Out of This World,” which means that the designers will be expected to showcase collections that will incorporate the theme.
The six trailblazing fashion designers consist of the five well-known designers everyone should pay attention to at the event. Among the designers are Kathrin Kidger, Mxolisi Mkhize, Sibu Msimang, and Madelain Clark – as well as Joel Janse van Vuuren and Sadie Bosworth-Smith from Gauteng.

“The six designers we have chosen for this year’s Hollywoodbets Durban July Invited Designer Showcase each bring so much to the table. They all understand that, first and foremost, this is a chic, elegant, race day fashion event. Expect breath-taking conceptual elegance translated into race day ensembles that will leave you speechless.
“Designers jump at this opportunity to showcase what they can do as it brings a huge audience, both at the pre-race-day shows and on the day of the Hollywoodbets Durban July itself, and through the big media following around the reveal of their designs,” explains Durban July fashion programme director Tiffany Prior.
Sadie Bosworth-Smith, who won the Young Designer Award as a student at DUT in 2014, will feature alongside some of her designs in the Hollywoodbets Durban July Invited Designer Showcase.
The line-up also includes Kathrin Kidger, a Durban rockstar designer, who will share the stage with well-known eThekwini names such as Sibu Msimang and ‘House of Saint Luke’ star Mxolisi Mkhize, as well as the enthusiastic Amanzimtoti-based couturier Madelain Clark.
