Family and friends hold prayer session for kidnapped Riana Pretorius

Family and friends gathered on Sunday evening for a prayer session for Riana Pretorius, the young biokineticist, who was kidnapped in Gqeberha last week.

The prayer session took place in Newton Park with candles that symbolised thoughts and prayers for her safety.

Riana was kidnapped and forced into a white Toyota Corolla by armed men outside a medical practice in Newton Park in Gqeberha last Thursday morning.

“We want her to be found, we want her to be safe and we want her family to know that they have our support. We will not stand for this injustice, greed and cruelty. Please show your support by attending this event and sharing this message,” friends shared on social media.

TWO WERE ARRESTED AND A R2 MILLION RANSON DEMANDED

The Hawks said not only have two people been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of the 30-year-old, but a ransom of R2 million had also been demanded.

The Hawks are now searching for the third suspect who could possibly lead them to Riana.

Hawks spokesperson for the Eastern Cape, Captain Yolisa Mgolodela, said they are following up on all possible leads.

Her family and friends have asked the public to continue to pray for her safe return.

KIDNAPPINGS IN SOUTH AFRICA ARE RAPIDLY INCREASING

Kidnappings surged in South Africa in the second quarter of the year, with over 4 000 cases reported to the police between July and September 2022.

The rate doubled compared to the same period last year. Total contact crimes increased by 18.5% during this period under review.
