The Abu Dhabi-based airline Etihad will run a flight to Johannesburg for three months over the northern hemisphere summer, filling the gap left when embattled carrier South African Airways cut the route from its offerings last month.
These will be added to the flights to the region already operated by Qatar Airways and Emirates, which both have at least one flight daily out of OR Tambo International. The financially troubled SAA had flights to Abu Dhabi for one year, but ended them in March, saying the route was unsustainable, according to media reports.
The Etihad flights will run from July to September, according to news reports.
