On 7 June at 7:00, the eThekwini Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Unit initiated emergency repairs on a section of the Southern Aqueduct causing a shutdown.

This decision follows the identification of a severe leak in the vicinity of Burlington. The prompt intervention aims to prevent further damage and ensure the integrity of the water supply system.

WATER CONSERVATION URGED DURING REPAIRS

In preparation for the shutdown, affected reservoirs have been filled. However, residents in impacted areas are encouraged to use water sparingly to maintain sufficient reservoir levels.

“Residents are urged to use water sparingly to avoid depletion of reservoirs as this may lead to the shutdown of outlets,” said the eThekwini Municipality.

Furthermore, the repair work is expected to be completed by 18:00, with a full restoration of water supply anticipated within three days, by Monday, 10 June.
