Eskom to enforce a 9-hour power cut in select Gauteng areas
Eskom has announced a planned electricity supply interruption in parts of Gauteng due to scheduled maintenance.

Eskom has announced a planned electricity supply interruption in certain areas of Soweto for scheduled maintenance on the distribution network. Dobsonville Extension 3 and Island residents will face a power outage on Monday, 17 March, from 9:00 to 18:00.
The utility emphasised that the maintenance work is necessary to ensure the reliability of the power supply in the area.
“The interruption is necessary to perform essential maintenance on our distribution lines,” Eskom stated.
The company has urged residents to treat all electrical appliances as live throughout the outage for safety reasons.
Eskom: Apology for Inconvenience, but Work Must Proceed
Eskom acknowledged the inconvenience the outage may cause but stressed the importance of the maintenance.
“Eskom would like to thank you for your cooperation and apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused by this maintenance,” the utility said.
Maintenance is part of Eskom’s ongoing efforts to stabilise the electricity grid and prevent unplanned outages caused by infrastructure failures. The power utility has been working to address technical issues in several areas, particularly in Gauteng, where network demand is high.
Power Cuts Could Be Postponed if Needed
Eskom has cautioned that the planned outage may not proceed as scheduled if unforeseen circumstances arise. Factors such as adverse weather conditions or urgent repairs elsewhere could lead to a postponement.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed through Eskom’s official communication channels for any updates. The power utility remains committed to improving service delivery despite ongoing challenges.
