Eskom is set to reach an impressive milestone of 200 continuous days without load shedding on Sunday, 13 October.

That period includes a power outage-free winter from 1 April to 31 August.

The milestone highlights the improved reliability and performance of the power utility’s generation fleet.

This achievement stems from the comprehensive Generation Operational Recovery Plan launched in March 2023, along with proactive planned maintenance, all supported by financial assistance from the National Treasury’s debt relief scheme.

Notably, this uninterrupted power supply has been accomplished with a significant reduction in the use of open-cycle gas turbines (OCGTs), which are typically employed to boost generation capacity during peak demand.

Meanwhile, Eskom recently announced that it doesn’t expect to have to implement load shedding during the upcoming summer season.
