EMPD FOLLOWS TIP-OFF ON MISUSED MUNICIPAL VEHICLES

On Tuesday, 23 May 2023 at about 06:00, members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Security and Loss Control Unit impounded three municipal vehicles following misuse by City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) council employees in the Benoni area.

Upon receiving a tip-off from a reliable source about City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) employees, using council vehicles to drop off their children at school, members swiftly acted on the information received and were led to a high school in Benoni where the law enforcers discovered three vehicles, namely a marked BMW belonging to the EMPD, a marked Ford Ranger belonging to the Disaster & Emergency Management Services Department (DEMS) and an unmarked white Ford Ranger belonging to the Parks Department, inside the school parking lot.

INVESTIGATION TO FOLLOW FOR THE IMPLICATED COUNCIL MEMBERS

All three vehicles were immediately confiscated from the responsible drivers, and internal investigations will follow soon, according to EMPD.

“Lots of EMPD vehicles are parked in the parking area at the Lifestyle Centre in Sunward Park while they are either going to shop or going for breakfast/lunch.”

Meanwhile, City of Ekurhuleni subcontractors were dealt a massive blow when they were attacked by an angry mob.

According to the City, on Monday, 06 March 2023, the City of Ekurhuleni electricians requested assistance from city-approved electrical contractors to assist on the site of an electrical outage in Sarel Hattingh Street, Klippoortjie AH, Germiston.

These electrical contractors, says Member of the Mayoral Committee for Water and Sanitation and Energy Cllr Senzi Sibeko, were attacked by an angry mob of community members who wrongfully assumed that these contractors were cable thieves.
Despite the contractors producing their paperwork in the form of wayleaves and other documentation, the community proceeded to attack them, which tragically resulted in the death of four (4) contractors.
