South African travelers are in for a premium flying experience as Emirates brings its retrofitted Boeing 777 aircraft to Johannesburg and Cape Town this September.

Featuring a sleek new Business Class, the airline’s signature Premium Economy, and refreshed interiors across all cabins, this marks the first time the revamped aircraft will touch down in Africa.

Emirates: A new era of comfort takes off

Passengers flying from Johannesburg and Cape Town will soon experience enhanced comfort and style aboard Emirates’ modernized Boeing 777s:

  • Johannesburg: The first upgraded aircraft will operate on the daily EK 765/766 route from 1 September, with the second following on EK 761/762 from 25 September.
  • Cape Town: The premium experience will arrive on the EK 770/771 route from 20 September.

Emirates Regional Manager for Southern Africa, Afzal Parambil, expressed excitement over the upgrade:

“The entire aircraft has been refreshed from nose-to-tail, setting new benchmarks for premium in-flight experience with our signature Premium Economy and thoughtfully designed Business Class cabins. We look forward to welcoming travellers from South Africa onboard the retrofitted aircraft soon.”

What’s new on board?

From elegant design updates to superior comfort, here’s what passengers can expect:

🔹 Premium Economy – Plush cream-colored leather seats, enhanced recline, footrests, and 13.3-inch personal entertainment screens. Each seat features wood panel finishes, in-seat charging, and a convenient cocktail table.

🔹 Business Class – Redesigned 1-2-1 layout for more privacy, direct aisle access, and ample space to work, lounge, and relax.

🔹 Refreshed Interiors – Inspired by nature, the cabins feature Ghaf Tree motifs, modern color palettes, and wood finishes for a sophisticated ambiance.

The revamped Boeing 777s will accommodate 24 Premium Economy seats and 256 Economy Class seats, ensuring a top-tier experience across all classes.

Emirates’ expansion of luxury travel

As part of a massive fleet refurbishment programme, Emirates is upgrading over 220 Boeing 777 and Airbus A380 aircraft. By September 2025, travelers can expect to see these modernized cabins serving 44 cities worldwide.

With its latest upgrades, Emirates is set to redefine long-haul travel from South Africa—where luxury, comfort, and world-class service come together at 35,000 feet.
