The EFF says it will write to parliament speaker to reconsider the decision of not establishing the impeachment committee against Ramaphosa.

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) said they will write to the Speaker of Parliament Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, asking her to reconsider the decision of not establishing the impeachment committee over the Phala-Phala report.

This comes after President Cyril Ramaphosa decided to no longer challenge the Section 89 report in court, which called for his impeachment over Phala Phala, as Parliament has dealt with the matter.

EFF TO WRITE TO PARLIAMENT SPEAKER

“The EFF will write to the Speaker again, urging her to reconsider the decision not to establish the impeachment committee, seeing that there are no further court challenges on the standing of the panel report.

“Failure by the speaker to reconsider the need to table the report for a decision by Parliament against would constitute a serious abdication of duty by Parliament, and this decision would be reviewable in court,” said the EFF.

The panel, chaired by retired Chief Justice Sandile Ngcobo, was established by Parliament to determine if Ramaphosa had a case to answer.

In its findings, the panel called for the impeachment process to be instituted.

However, the majority of parliamentarians voted against the report.

THE RULING-PARTY USED ITS MAJORITY

“The ruling party used its majority in parliament in December 2022 to squash this parliamentary process, alleging that the report was challenged in court by Ramaphosa and that there were other state agencies investigating the matter.

“The SARB has since reported that the Dollars found at Ramaphosa’s farm were never declared, and now Ramaphosa has aborted his all-advised court challenges,” added the party.
