EFF secures mayorship in a Gauteng municipality
EFF councillor and MMC Antionette Shikoane has been named the acting mayor of a municipality in Gauteng.
Antionette Shikoane from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has been appointed as the acting mayor of the West Rand District Municipality in Gauteng.
Shikoane who is also a member of the mayoral committee (MMC) for Health and Social Development was appointed by the executive mayor Thabiso Bovungana.
EFF MMC APPOINTED WEST RAND ACTING MAYOR
The Red Berets have welcomed the appointment saying it is a statement of confidence in Shikoane whom it says has displayed utmost diligence and dedication to serve the people of West Rand.
“Her appointment comes at a time wherein the people deserve honest, transparent and accountable leadership,” the EFF said.
Shikoane was appointed on Tuesday, 22 October and will be acting mayor until Sunday, 28 October.

- The West Rand District Municipality is situated relatively close to Gauteng’s hub of economic activity and is transversed by major national roads, the N12 and N14. However, it remains the poorest region contributing to Gauteng’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
- West Rand District Municipality comprises three local municipalities: Merafong City, Mogale City, and Rand West.
- Cities within the municipality include Carletonville, Fochville, Krugersdorp, Magaliesburg, Muldersdrift, Randfontein, Wedela and Westonaria.
